Strawberry Shortcake Poke Cake

It is so hot in July and nothing makes a Summer day cool off like a chilly dessert.  It makes a great addition to any cook out or just to have as a little snack.  Are worried about getting cracks in your cake when bake one?  Don't worry about that today, because we are poking holes in our cake on purpose!   I love trying out new recipes and even more when they turn out like this.

Strawberry Shortcake Poke Cake

*Get a white cake or angel cake mix. Make cake as directed on box.

* Poke holes throughout cake with a wooden dowel large enough for topping to seep into. I used a wide unused marker.   Poke the cake with the size desired while warm still.

*Strawberry Glaze the top while warm so it will run into holes. if it is not going into the holes like you want you can always mix a little bit of water with your glaze before hand to thin it out.

*Place Freshly Sliced Strawberries on top. Put it in the freezer for about 15 minutes.

Pull your cake out of the freezer and spread your whipped topping on and put it in the freezer for about 15 minutes without a cover.  You want it to firm up enough to put plastic wrap on top without messing up the topping.  Once your dessert is all ready to be served, all you have to do is drizzle your glaze on top.

Don't let the cake FREEZE, but let get it cold enough for whip topping to be firm so it does not run. Remove about 10 minutes before serving time.   Strawberry Shortcake-Poke Cake.....mmmmm!

There are so many options for poke cake like Banana Pudding Poke Cake, Oreo Poke Cake, Boston Creme Poke Cake, Jello Poke Cupcakes.  I saw all of these on this cute little site and there was not a Strawberry Shortcake one so I just knew this would be a great recipe to try out.  Here is to enjoying your Summer one day at a time.  Let me know if you make this and how it came out.  I can not wait to hear about it.  My family enjoyed it and I am sure yours will too.

*For the 2013 Summer we have made yet another tasty version of Strawberry Shortcake~ Tastykake style!
